Did you know you can download 1,000s of free fonts on your computer?

Today I learned that you can get more than 1,000 extra free fonts installed on your computer from websites that create fonts!

Did you ever see a beautiful website? Did you ever see an ugly website? The web fonts used play a big role in the design of a website and whether you — the visitor — think it’s cool or get-me-out-of-here!

So it’s very important to have a variety of fonts installed on your computer. If you do things such as design logos, for example, your customers are going to want their logo to look original. No one wants to see a web page with a lot of words that all look exactly alike.

I used to think that when you’re designing on the computer with software such as Adobe Photoshop, you can only use the fonts automatically installed on your computer if you didn’t want to pay to get more fonts. I was very surprised when I downloaded a lot of extra fonts on my computer for free and they worked with Photoshop.

The only thing I don’t like about most of the free font websites is that sometimes it’s harder to find simple, easy-to-read fonts than it is to find fonts difficult to read.

I also learned that you can create fonts yourself if you have a font-creating software. The only problem is that these font-creating software programs cost a lot of money. One of the font creators called Fontlab charges $500 to for its software to make your own fonts! I would rather just use free fonts! You can learn more about creating your own fonts at a website called The Font Factory here: http://www.thefontfactory.com/fonttutorial.shtml
